I purchased this book to support the teaching of social skills in my Year 1 classroom. At the time, we were learning about recognising and understanding the feelings of others. The beautifully written and illustrated story provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss the clues we can look for in people's body language, words and actions to help us identify how they might be feeling.
The book also introduced some rich vocabulary, which we explored and discussed as we read. The students were highly engaged with the story and have since asked to read it again and again. They were especially fascinated to learn that I taught the author when she was in primary school!
Well done Sinead on creating such an engaging, thoughtful and meaningful story. It was a valuable resource for both literacy and social-emotional learning in our classroom and homes.
Such a beautiful book - amazing shelf presence and such a special message, absolutely love this story!
A thoughtfully worded book with a lovely message. It was a highly appreciated gift as well.
Lovely.
This gorgeous little book about Hugo the duck absolutely melted mine and my daughter’s heart. “Making Brighter Days” is such a gentle, uplifting reminder of how powerful kindness can be, especially the small, thoughtful kind that often goes unnoticed.
Hugo is the sweetest guide through a story that celebrates cheering others on, embracing our quirks, and recognising the things that make each of us wonderfully unique. The message feels simple in the best possible way: that who we are, our funny habits, our softness, our differences, is exactly what the world needs. And that bad days are okay, too.
This is the kind of book that sparks meaningful conversations with little ones, while quietly reminding grown-ups of something we sometimes forget too. Warm, tender and full of heart this is a story that truly does make brighter days and something my daughter and I thoroughly look forward to reading each day.
